Where to even start with potty training?

I feel so overwhelmed.
Im a single mom to my almost 2.5 yr old and we havent started potty training. Im just not sure hes ready.. how do I know if he is?
Theres so much info on the internet. Whats the best resource? What should I be purchasing here?

Do all kids eventually learn?

I potty trained my son at about 2.5 years. Signs are like noticing they are going dry in their diaper for long periods (they are holding it), being interested in going potty, hiding when pooping etc etc. At this age, wouldn't hurt to try and see how they react. My son I tried 3 times. The first two times he got super upset and stressed at the idea of using the potty so I backed off. The 3rd time when he was actually ready and he didn't get stressed or upset about it and I had him potty trained in 2 days. Best thing to do is put them in underwear right away so they know when they are going potty and just take them to the bathroom many many many times a day and have them sit on it. Give a prize or reward for using the potty at first too is also a good way. 
And while kids may "eventually learn" I don't think potty training is self taught. And the longer you wait to do it (like example over 3) it will be much harder
