my son just turned 5mo and absolutely refuses to take a paci(i can get him to take the tommee tippee ones sometimes but only if he nurses to sleep and i can do the ole’ switcheroo.)

he has definitely favored his thumb but hasnt quite sucked on it for comfort yet. he will just put it in his mouth and chew on it with a few practice sucks here and there.

my question is- for those moms who have thumb suckers, when did your baby start actually thumb sucking for comfort? more so as a comfort to go to sleep? i feel like ive tried all the pacis on the face of the planet, and he doesnt really nurse to sleep(very rarely.) when he gets tired he just fusses and cries and i feel like me patting his back/bottom, rocking and shushing just doesnt do it and i start to feel helpless.
