Anyone else’s toddler afraid to poop?
My daughter will go several days without going sometimes. She goes through phases where she holds it in then other times she’s more regular. But right now she’s in one of her phases and it’s been 3 days and she’s miserable. Getting upset at everything, whining constantly, and very needy. She gets very bouncy like she’s trying to stop it. And it’s just because she tries to hold it in which obviously makes everything worse and starts a bad cycle
This has been going on a long time. It started when she was transitioning off breastmilk and onto cow milk at a year old. She did get constipated a bit during that time so I think that’s what made her try not to go. But she’s now 2 and she still has phases like this.
She eats pretty healthy for the most part but on days like this I’m very conscious of what I feed her especially - lots of fibrous foods, a little juice, etc. but she still hasn’t gone. Ill give her a warm bath and apply some petroleum jelly to her bottom if it’s been a few days so when she finally goes it isn’t as bad (her drs recommendation).
It’s very frustrating bc this can go on for a couple days until she finally goes. Then we are all soooo relieved when she goes! She’s in the best mood ever after. My husband and I even text each other when she goes bc we get so excited lol. It literally affects her mood the rest of the day if she goes!
And I’ve talked with her pediatrician about it several times, I know the suggestions but they don’t always work. For awhile we would give her Mirilax when she needed it (been several months since we’ve had to do this) but it almost seemed like it made it worse bc she tried even harder not to go but it was initiating the process so she was extra upset.
I only personally know one person who’s toddler had this issue. Anyone else’s toddler have this? Anything work for your toddler in this situation?
