Anyone struggle with their in laws?

I feel like I do so much to make them happy but it’s like they always have something negative to say about me. I worked so hard to get my husband really expensive Nike Air Force 1 (150) and a really expensive nice cooking knives (250) because my husband really likes to cook and has been asking for new knives all year long.

They were talking to him on the phone and were saying “that’s all you got?” And “you should give her the kjives and make her cook with them”

Mind you I do cook all the time. Especially during the work week when my husband is at work. We hardly eat out and Im cooking for us both healthy meals.

I work as a medical assistant rn and picked up extra night and weekend shifts at the emergency room since everywhere is short staffed. I also worked additional hours for more money for gifts this year so it made me feel really bummed that they told him that. And kind of embarrassed because I don’t make a lot of money but I really did try. My husband told them he really loved his shoes and he’s been asking for the knives all year and that they’re really nice but I still felt really embarrassed. Any advice? I just feel like I’m constantly getting my feeling hurt by things they say and idk how to stop or not let it hurt me
