Odd family interactions

So my boyfriend's family was over yesterday for Christmas and I had cooked dinner for everyone. My boyfriend's mom made a cute comment trying to be funny after tasting my food and she was like "you got a good one" and then his grandma said a good what? Then his mom said a good daughter in law. His grandma then stated well she's not your daughter in law.

My boyfriend and I are not married so she is right, but we do have a 1.5 year old son and are working towards it but we sre still figuring it out. I just thought it was a simple comment and didn't really need a reapinse and was kind of embarrassing as she knows it's a sensitive topic for my partner and I. AM I tripping ?
