Kicking/Natural Consequences
We try not to do time outs and we practice gentle parenting, but I’m struggling to figure out how to use natural consequences to teach my daughter not to kick me (and her baby sister, when I have to wear her in the carrier) while I’m changing her diaper. It’s not like I can say I’m not going to change her diaper anymore, and I can’t separate myself from her in the moment like I can if she hits, because I have to finish the diaper change. Any tips or tricks for this?
I always tell her feet are not for kicking, kicking hurts, she needs to stay still so I can keep her clean and healthy by changing her diaper. She just laughs and kicks again. (And obviously I try to stop her from doing it in the first place by holding onto her legs. It just doesn’t always work.)
ETA we cloth diaper and they cannot be put on standing up.
