Would you want to be told?

Question

If you were ttc and you mentioned the name you had picked out to a friend that was also ttc and they got pregnant first and used the name you picked, would you want them to mention it to you? (NOT ask for permission, more as a heads up). 
The name has a sentimental value for us since it’s an honor name, which I mentioned to her, and the name is not common.

I’d still use it actually and distance myself from her. She knows what she did.

Oh totally. I specifically choose not to tell anyone my future children’s names for that reason. I don’t want that disappointment. My SO and I have only told his mom when we first announced we were on the ttc journey. 
My SO’s sister is expecting her fifth child. I casually asked what names she had in mind. The middle name she chose for her daughter was a family name. My SO and I had already expressed that we wanted to use that name for our future daughter. We’re on month five of ttc #1. We told her and she was VERY understanding. She had previously used a family name for her second child. She said something along the lines of “I had my chance to use a family name, I get it.”

This actually happened to me. I had a girls name picked out for years that I had previously shared with my best friend. When she got pregnant (years before me mind you, cuz I was having issues with fertility ) she took the name without ever even giving me any heads up or any real sympathy. Honestly blindsided me, was very upset by it. We eventually worked through it but honestly ruined the name for me after that.

I remember the name my friend liked in highschool. I actually really like the name as an adult. She doesn't even have kids nor do I know if she wants kids and we aren't close anymore. I still won't use that name. She knows what she did lol

You can't just claim and own a name. Still use it and so will she. I don't think it's the end of the world
