Reigniting an old flame…maybe?

Question

Just found out my ex is single again and I want to see if he was up to fool around a little. We’re friends now and dated almost two years ago. I don’t want to bring it up and ruin the friendship but I have no way of knowing if he’s open to it or not. What do I do/say?

Hey ___ I was just curious, have you ever thought about dating again or having a friends with benefits or hooking up or whatever you are looking for. We are both single and we have needs. Or don’t go there at all and find someone else because most friends with benefits do not work out because emotions get involved or the fact that you aren’t the only one he shares a bed with jealousy or insecurities or over thinking or wanting more while the other doesn’t. Not sure why things didn’t work out to begin with but those issues are still there. He’s an ex for a reason. Some times people are better off as friends than together. Finding someone else not to ruin or complicate that is usually the better option.
