I have a very young baby who will probably be talking and walking in the next few months. My mom keeps telling me ‘just wait until he starts to talk and walk, your life will be over’ and yesterday she said that when he starts to have his own opinions our lives will be a living hell. That’s word for word what she said. It seems a little extreme? Like what happened in her parenting experience that makes her say that to my husband and I. Is this something you experienced?

I think she has a personality disorder and am still working through the damage she did to me. She’s a very high functioning person in a powerful job but to me she treats me like a child and bullies me. So this comment sort of made some of it make sense.
