I recently had my first baby and a lot of family and acquaintances have asked "How long were you in labor for?". I really don't know how to answer, what counts as time in labor?

On a Thursday morning (about 4am) my constant Braxton hicks turned into mild legitimate contractions, they got a little more intense and more consistent overnight. Friday morning I was able to track them and by noon they were painful and I couldn't just breathe through them anymore. I went to the hospital about 2 pm (contractions about 4.5 minutes apart) and was admitted. After getting set up in my room, IV in, meds administered, an epidural, and having my water broke it was about 15-20 minutes of pushing til baby was born at 10:40 pm. So what in that counts as labor?
