First Trimester Weight Gain
First pregnancy here. I am 9 weeks, yay! We are excited. Prior to becoming pregnant, I attended hot yoga, power flow 2-3 times a week (burning ~700 cals per class) Not pregnancy safe, so I started attending yin and prenatal yoga. Not so much burning many calories in these classes. I am also walking 2-4 times a week and 1 personal training session per week. My trainer is aware I’m expecting and tailored to reduce the HIIT workouts we were doing, so also burning more calories there. I am considered in the healthy bmi range of 23.
Well I have already gained 6 lbs. during the first ob appt the dr said gain no more than 5 lbs in the first trimester and well I still have a few weeks to go and going to surpass that.
I’m feeling a bit discouraged by the quick weight gain. I believe it’s a combo of the reduced intense workouts and pregnancy itself with bloating and water retention.
Will my ob think I am not taking care of myself and I’m thinking about risks of gaining weight too quickly in first trimester gestational diabetes and preeclampsia… any other moms relate? Am I over thinking?!
We haven’t told anyone the news yet.. so I can’t call up my family or friends ;).
