Why BLW instead of puree ?

Why did you choose BLW instead of purée or vice versa? If you did BLW, when did you start and what were some of the first foods you gave your baby? What if baby can’t sit up unassisted at 6 months?

I chose to do BLW more so for the whole premise of giving control to the child about what and how much they eat. The philosophy of “it’s the parent’s job to decide when and what to feed, but it’s the child’s job to decide what to eat and how much.” They will have better oral development, but also a better relationship with food if you follow the whole philosophy. Solid starts is my favorite resource—on Instagram and they have an app. Some of the best first foods: avocado, eggs, steamed broccoli.

We do a combination of both purees and BLW. It's what worked best for us and our babies.

Purées only add no benefit to baby. It doesn’t teach them to chew and swallow. Baby food bought in stores is expensive for something not necessary. This was a reason I did BLW. Purées can still be apart of BLW, you just have to let babe spoon feed themselves or use the pouch themselves.
Also, once I did more research into BLW, the benefits are worth the little extra anxiety in the beginning. BLW helps advance oral development (chewing, swallowing, talking) and fine motor skills. It reduces the risk of choking. It reduces the chance of picky eating. It reduces the chances of baby overeating. 
I started at 6m as my daughter met all signs of readiness.
If babe is 6m and doesn’t meet all signs of readiness, just wait until all signs are met.

I did it purely because my son did not like baby food. He would just take the spoon from me and smear the food everywhere. Also it was cheaper and easier because he can feed himself Vs us feeding him.

We did babyfood at 6 months because he was a month early so it was to be on the more cautious side but after that hes been eating whatever we eat for the most part

My daughter wasn’t really into purées. I couldn’t get her to eat very much of them so I started her on BLW when she could sit up unassisted which was closer to almost 8 months. I don’t remember the first foods I gave her for BLW though.
