Baby Shower/Sprinkle for baby #2 (different gender)

My parents want to throw my husband and I a sprinkle at their house - only inviting about 30 people. We have a 3 year old boy and expecting a girl in April. I'm so worried certain people will think it's tacky but my parents insist on doing something to celebrate our baby. What do you think? Appropriate or tacky?
