My boyfriend wants to get his own place but stay in relationship

I've been with my boyfriend for 5 years now we have a 4 year old and a nearly 2 year old. We have been living together for nearly 4 years not long after my oldest was born. We do argue a lot and bicker we always have the whole time but we love each other so much.

The past few days we have had 3 big arguments over little things we make up and forgive each other anyway my boyfriend come to me last night and said he wants to move out and live alone so we get some space from each other but stay in a relationship. He wants to have the boys every other day. But I think it will be really hard on the kids. He works but I don't I rely on his income for our family. While he is at work his family will have the kids that day so I see it pointless him taking the kids them days. I don't think this will work what can I do I don't want to live separately and put this all on the kids I know what it's like when ur parents are separated I had a really bad up bringing because of it what do I do
