What will my hair look like?

Question

My hair rn is a medium brown I think and it isn’t how I really like it. Is there any way I can make it lighter? I’m hoping for a light ash brown color. Will using this help? It says it’s an in shower toning gloss. Can someone further explain what a hair toner can do ? Or is this more like a hair dye?

Unless you, yourself, are a stylist, you're not going to achieve either of those pictures yourself at home. You will need bleach to lighten your hair and that is VERY easy to mess up and fry your hair if you don't know what you are doing. A toner does not lighten hair. From my unprofessional understanding, it's normally used after lightening to ensure the hair is one even color. I see from your comments you have already spent 500$ at the salon, so your best options are either to spend more to get the results you want, or just wait until you go back in a few months.

If you want lighter you need to bleach your hair. If you don't know how to bleach I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself. I'm not a hair stylist but can do my hair by myself but only simple things. What you want isn't that simple. Don't ever use box dye either. If anything go to your local Sally's and beauty supply. Maybe ask the person working there and they might be able to give you recommendations. General rule of thumb if you want your hair lighter using dying it won't do much. You have to use bleach.

If you want to lighten your hair you’ll need bleach, a toner won’t lighten it. It’ll actually make it a bit darker, for the color you’re wanting it’s probably best to go to a stylist. I have lightened my hair using peroxide so you could try that, else you’ll need to look Into different strengths of bleach to lighten it

I bleach my own hair all the time  I would watch lots of videos and make sure you’re comfortable I’ve been doing my own hair for 15 years self taught.
