IVF or IUI

Nikki

I’m 38 and my husband is 37. We’ve had 2 failed IUIs and I’m trying to decide if we should do a 3rd IUI cycle or consider IVF now. Our insurance pays for nothing so it’s all out of pocket which makes me hesitant.

We have one child who turns 4 in a few months and my husbands count is good but quality isn’t necessarily great (maybe bc he drinks alcohol pretty heavily, not sure). I have open tubes and ovulate normal without a trigger shot. My one concern with IUI is that they do the procedure the morning I am at high fertility and not peak. I wish they would do it when I am closer to ovulation as even on letrozole my cycle is still consistent/regular. They did the procedure this last cycle on Thursday morning @8:30am and I am almost 💯 positive I ovulated Friday at 11pm. I could feel it and I assume it was bc of the 2 mature follicles. First cycle only one follicle was mature and other was small. I know it says sperm should last up to 48 hrs but feel I may have better luck if they didn’t do the procedure so early.

I also have a friend that got pregnant with both her children on IUI cycle #3 in her 30s (before 35 though) so that’s another reason I’m hesitant to go to IVF yet. If I had never been pregnant before I would likely have started with IVF over IUI.
