New York State question

I know this is a weird question. I just moved to New York a few months ago so the weather here is new to me. Does anyone know when New York gets snow? It’s the middle of January already and no snow at all. Does anyone know what the snow months are? Is it possible for New York to have a winter without a big snow storm?
