I heard the story when I was a kid and remember my grandma going through documents and talking with family about it. Now Im in my 30’s and have decided I want to investigate this further. Technology has changed since I was a kid and there are more resources. But I have come to a road block and need ideas

Here is the story(names changed)

🛑TRIGGER WARNING(Sexual Assault, Murder)🛑

My grandpa(George) and his brother(Rich) both married and had children in the late 1960’s.

Rich’s wife(Betty) “apparently” told Rich that she had been cheating on him, and was pregnant by the other guy. No one heard from or seen Betty after that. Which was around 1970-ish.

Around the time, Betty and Rich had 2 daughters. The oldest daughter Leslie, (stated later on in life to my mom) that she remembered my grandpa and Rich taking the 2 girls to the woods and having them sit on a log nearby. She watched them bury a large black bag and she saw a glimpse of a face in the bag. At the time she thought it was the face of a monster. But Leslie was very young and didnt know where this location was.

Betty also had a brother Jacob, who approached Rich and asked where his sister was but Rich threatened Jacob and told him to never come around again. Rich threatened everyone. Now my grandpas wife Lucy(my grandma) was very close to Betty and was also concerned on her whereabouts. My grandma and Jacob wanted to file a Missing persons report. My grandpa George tried to get my grandma not to do it. My grandpa was also a police officer for the local Department as well! Jacob and my Grandma did file a report though, however, according to Jacob the police flipped the words around in the report. The police said Jacob stated “Betty ran off with some guy and got pregnant”. Jacob to this day says that he did NOT say that, and that her husband Rich said that. That was all that was ever done in the case. Jacob never went around Rich again. A private investigator was hired but came up with nothing.

Fast for 15-ish years later. Rich is sent to prison for 30years for the rape/incest of his daughters Leslie and Kate(they were young teens when the finally told someone). Rich threatened to kill everyone when he got out of prison.

Fast forward 2003, Leslie has 2 daughters of her own and dies of drug overdose.

Fast forward several more years and Rich is released from prison. Rich remarried while in prison, and also became “saved”. No one spoke to him(that I know of) He died in 2013 at 67yrs old.

No one knows what ever happened to Betty(possibly my grandpa but Im not speaking to him on it)

Fast Forward present day… I decided to look into this. Betty has 1 daughter still alive, Kate. Kate doesnt know much about her mom has a few papers like birth certificate with her mothers name on it. Jacob has stayed in touch with family and is currently living with his niece Kate. Jacob is now 70yrs old.

I used my Ancestry subscription to research past records, documents anything in relation to Betty. Bettys mother Alice was not the best mother and also been married multiple times. Here are the “Facts” I know/learned about Betty. I have interviewed many family members including Jacob. I refuse to speak to my grandpa on any of this. I dont have much of any relationship with him.

Betty’s mom Alice married Jesse(who is not Bettys father). Bettys father is Unknown.

Jesse is Jacobs Father.

Alice was born in West Virginia.

Alice had ties to Hawaii(supposedly) and lived there with Jacob and Betty. They eventually moved to Michigan.

Her son Jacob was born in WV as well.

Betty was born in North Carolina/South Carolina.

Betty had darker skin complexion and dark hair(my family says like she was Hawaiian)

Betty married Rich in the 1960’s.

Betty was born 1950

Betty disappeared around 1970-1972

Bettys oldest daughter died 2003

Bettys mother died 2006-ish

Betty never knew her father.

Bettys living daughter Kate is submitting an ancestry DNA test to hopefully find connections to her father.

Only Betty/Rich or her parents are able to request marriage certificate.

The county where the police report was made doesnt keep copies of reports past 1990.

I cant find a single solid document with anything showing Betty existed, was married, or census. I searched Ancestry, I searched google. I tried several name variations including last names(married, stepfather last name, mothers maiden name) nothing.

I have found some basic document with names but they dont say anything that proves 100% thats her. They are generic documents.

what else can I do?
