How long until birth controls effective?

I just started using birth control, I am on the week before I take my sugar pills on my third month. I was wondering when the pill actually kicks in to where I don't have to worry about having protected sex?

It depends on the kind.
Mine were effective after the first 7 days of every pack, we (husband & I) still used condoms anyways, just to be safe.

I was on the pill, and my doctor told me 2 week's. I got off of it and got on Nexplanon (arm implant) and he told me it was effective as soon as he put it in. I think different doctors say different things to different people because it can be put in effect sooner than others.

Most doctors say 3 months for the full effect.

Also remember if you take antibiotics while on the pill they will not work!
