When did your toddler SMOOTHLY transition to a toddler/big kid bed?

Just want results on when is a GOOD time to do it. Baby is due 2 months shy of sons 3rd birthday and we’ll need the crib, but I’d like to transition earlier than that. Don’t want too many big things happening at once.

Both our kids we transitioned from crib to twin bed at 2 years old. They both did fine.

We did when she started climbing out. It was sometime during her 3rd year or close to it. We baby proofed the room and let her go. It was sometimes a mess by morning, but she was never in danger.
A lot of people get attached to the idea that they need to be in the bed, but her rule was she had to be in the room. She fell asleep on the floor a couple times, but pretty quickly getting herself to the bed was a lot more comfortable.

We went through the same thing. Baby due 3 months before big bro turned 3. Big bro was still totally fine in his crib, but we wanted to make the transition before baby sis came. We built his big boy bed (a twin floor bed) and let him explore it for a couple days. He was excited about it, but didn't want to sleep in it. Then one day the crib "broke" (we hid the mattress in our closet 😂). He could either sleep in his big boy bed or the pack n play in his new room. He chose the pack n play. We did that for a couple nights and he napped in his bed a couple times. Then the pack n play "broke" and he was in his bed full time.

My son started tossing himself out of his crib some time between turning 1 and 1.5 so he was moved to a toddler bed. He actually ended up doing great. The first week or so he would get up a few times and we would have to direct him back to bed, but he slept well and enjoyed his big kid bed.

I caught my oldest trying to climb out her crib at 2.5. We transitioned to a toddler bed within a week & she was fine. She fell out the first night, but never got out of bed once she was down for the night.

We moved my daughter about 2 months after her 2nd birthday because we were trying for #2 and I knew I didn't want everything happening at once. She had slept in big beds before when visiting family or in a hotel though so it was a seamless transition for us

2 years 8 months- no issues at all, he has always stayed in his little bed and slept just as great as when he was in the crib
