Why would a man promise marriage, propose, and then not follow through?? 😭

I know there isn’t one good answer, but we’ve been together for 7 years, living together for 6 and engaged for 4…he keeps promising we will set a wedding date and then time just goes on and on and he won’t. I’ve suggested a few dates here and there and he just says we will get married soon…I’m so hurt and confused.

He’s stringing you along, and probably told you what he thought you wanted to hear. I’d get out. Marriage isn’t for everyone but broken promises and no plans for the future in sight would be a deal breaker for me.

Because you’re allowing him to. He’s been able to string you along for 4+ years and will likely see how many more years he can add. It’s probably time for you to give him an ultimatum or leave but men know when they actually want to marry someone and they won’t string them along in the process either.

It sounds like he is afraid to make that big commitment. I would ask him why. And then ￼I would tell him that you are setting a date and starting wedding plans and if he doesn't want that, then you'll be moving on without him. As much as that hurts, you shouldn't stay with someone who refuses to commit to you the way he promised. ￼
