Is it wrong for your significant other to tell you what you can and cannot wear?

I went to a friends party and decided to wear a crop top and shorts. My significant other told me that I shouldn’t wear it and put something that covers up more on. Am I in the wrong?

My partner knows he gets no say over what I wear because its my body and my choice what I wear and the fact he is trying to tell you what to wear would be a red flag for me

Yes it is wrong. Spouses, or anyone for that matter, cannot dictate what you decide to wear. Nor should they at all because it is your body. That is often a sign of a controlling spouse, and could get worse. Definitely watch him, and if he’s been controlling over your decisions in the past break up IMMEDIATELY because that sounds toxic.

No that’s very controlling. I had on some leggings one time that I didn’t know were see-through and my husband respectfully asked me to wear some different pants and told me he would buy me some more leggings that weren’t see through. It’s all about communication. No one should be telling you what you can or cannot wear.

No one can tell you what to wear, however if what you're wearing makes your significant other uncomfortable because they don't want others to look at you in a certain way. Then maybe talk to each and come to a compromise because it will put a strain on your relationship if you are showing off your body even though you are with someone, they probably just don't want anyone to try anything because you are with them and are not single.
