Pack n play added mattress

Before I start, I’m a single mom that got pregnant from rape. I was no where ready for a child but I decided to keep my baby. I fell in love with her and she is my rainbow in the storm. But because I wasn’t ready, I had no experience to be a mom. I wasn’t financially ready either but with help from family- I was ready.

So to start with my question- my daughter sleeps in a pack n play since I have no room for a crib yet. My daughter refuses to sleep now. I added a mattress (my daughters pediatrician said it was fine to add as long as it’s tight which it’s a very tight fit) also the mattress is firm. Even though my doctor said it’s fine I worry because a lot of other people on this app says it’s not okay and also the pack n play says don’t add a loose mattress to the pack n play.

But it’s not loose at all. My daughter is 3 months old. Any advice ? She slept one night in the pack n play and she slept wonderful. Other times with no mattress - she slept horrible. Please advice. Can I leave the mattress it

The reason the added mattresses aren’t allowed is because the walls are mesh and pliable, so baby could get lodged between the wall and underneath the mattress. The thin one it comes with is attached to the floor of the pack and play and not thick enough for baby to get lodged between or underneath. That doesn’t mean you can’t do it, and I’m telling you this as a mom who has used one 🤷🏼‍♀️, but that’s the reason.

I did not. I used one when I moved my baby from a bassinet to a pack and play—he couldn’t roll, so that pretty much mitigated the risk of getting stuck. Once he was in a crib and we were only using it for travel, I went back to the mattress it came with but added a mattress cover that was a little more plush, but fit like a sheet (added some cushion but didn’t add height, so isn’t a suffocation risk).

This isn’t my post but I’m also wondering about adding a mattress to my 3 month old sons pack n play. Did you have any problems adding a mattress? How old was your baby when you added one

As per the AAP it is not safe, mostly because every possible pack and play hasn’t been tested for safety with every possible after market mattress, and if it not a tight fit kids can get stuck between the mattress and side of the pack and play. Personally I used an aftermarket mattress with both of my kids, I just made sure it was a snug fit and a firm mattress and it was used in my room right next to my bed, but just because it was ok with both of my kids doesn’t mean it’s ok for all kids and it’s survivors bias, but that’s my personal experience. I think you need to balance the risks and benefits for your personal situation.

Id leave the mattress. Also could check Facebook marketplace for a bassinet. We got ours for free because the lady made us wait an hour 🤷🏻‍♀️ but there’s a lot that are like brand new for $40
