I had cancer as a child. I had ewings sarcoma, it was located in my lower pelvic area. They couldn't surgically remove it without taking out half of my hip, so they treated me with chemotherapy and radiation. The radiation killed my eggs. My doctor told me there is a high high chance that I wouldn't be able to get pregnant. I take the birth control pill to balance out my hormones, and the pills make me have a period. I don't know weather or not I should be able to get pregnant. I'm really confused and would just like an answer. I'm not ready for a child yet. I'm only 16. But I'm curious so when the time does come around I will know if I need to be treated or I can have a child with out treatment. Please help?

Hi Holly - I agree completely that this is something you should discuss with your doctor. But also know that there are many ways to become a mother, donor eggs, donor sperm, surrogates, foster patenting, adaption just to name a few. And science is advancing every day. What's possible now might have completely changed by the time you are ready to conceive....

As chance would have it, my husband had Ewing sarcoma as a kid. They amputated his leg. And 2 yrs of chemo killed a lot of his sperm. But drs still found some in his testicles and we were able to use those to get pregnant. That would not have been possible even 10 years ago. So who know what will be possible in the future.

This is something I think you should discuss with a specialist or even an OBGYN. The doctor you see should be in contact with the doctors that helped you with your cancer. They should be able to tell you what they think your situation will be like when you do decide to TTC.
