1 year TTC, going for consultation. Advice?

Question

Its been a year now of TTC, and I've set up a consultation with my DR for infertility. Any of you girls already been there and have suggestions about what I might expect? I'm really nervous!!!

Don't be worried. I went through all the tests last month and we have a final meeting next week for my husband. I was so sure something was wrong but everything is fine. Just remember that if they do find something, there is a way to get pregnant through almost all situations. I'm sorry it's taking so long, I'm right there with you. Finally got off Facebook and social media which helps. Just say a prayer and don't expect the worst. Sending good vibes to you!

I have a 3 1/2 yr old from a previous relationship which I then had an IUD put in when she was 6 months old. When my DH and I got married on 1/26/13, we decided that 7/15/13 we wanted it removed. I had it removed and 9 months later am still TTC. I got an ultrasound just to check the movement and look for cysts. I also got bloodwork to check my hormones which came up fine. My husband even got a sperm test and got cleared with "low normal" and put on vitamins. This was all through my OB and not a RE. I actually went today and have to go back for more bloodwork on April 15th to check my progesterone and then possibly start clomid pills on day 3 of AF. My OB thinks it could be endometriosis due to some pain I previously had that formed during the time I had my IUD but correcting that for pregnancy usually requires surgery.. :(

Hi Julie.  No worries, they will check your hormone levels to check for your ovarian age ( FSH, LH, AMH, estradiol ) these tests are run in the 2nd-3rd day of your cycle so be sure to schedule your appt accordingly.  They may also do an ULtrasound to check your ovaries for antral follicle count (15-25 is normal) which also shows health of your ovaries.  Your hubby will likely get a Sperm analysis bc apparently 40% of infertility is due to the boys!  GL on your journey!!

My husband and I have two girls. However, we have been TTC baby #3 for 2.5 years. I went to an infertility specialist.  They found nothing wrong with me after blood work, ultrasound and HSG (hysteriopingagram? Sp.). It flushes ink up your Fallopian tubes to see if they are blocked. However, my hubby has low sperm morphology. They said we would have to do IUI and injections. I am not quite there emotionally and financially ($2,000 a treatment) and no insurance to cover. The tests that were ran were already about $1,500 all together. My hubby and I are now doing foster classes, because that is the road we feel lead to do.

I wasn't at quite a year when I went but I knew I wasn't ovulating so I decided to go get checked out. The first thing my dr had me do was get blood drawn to check my hormones. Then I had an ultrasound done because of my known uterine abnormality and to check for signs of pcos. I just recently got referred to a fertility dr for a more complete workup for myself and my husband. We're still waiting on some results from his semen analysis. If I'm not pregnant this month (my 2nd cycle on Clomid) I'll be having an HSG done to check for any blockages in my tubes. Then I'm having surgery to correct my septate uterus!! If I'm not pregnant by June/July I'll be having my first IUI. Phewww!! That seems like a lot I know. I just have a lot of issues. At a minimum your dr should be checking your hormones to make sure nothing is out of whack. Hope that helps!!!

If you are seeing just your OB they might just ask some questions and then refer you to an RE. My OB gave me a referral to an RE and that's when I really got information about options our possible problems, etc. Our RE started my hubby out first SA test and blood work then it was on to me. We have been TTC 2 years now.I have heard of some OB/GYN starting girls on clomid first them referring to a specialist depends on your Doc. It's a lot of info at first to take in but in the end knowing can be helpful.
