If you don't release an egg can you still bleed? Confused..

Question

12 days past AF with spotting durring that time. Dr suggested my ovary didn't release an egg. But there was a little blood and cramping for one day of AF then nothing. I can't find much info online about no egg release AND spotting/light bleeding. hpt negative. Am I missing something?? Never had this happen before.

My experience would lead me to believe that it is very possible. Always had a 5-7 day period like clockwork (never even a scare) from my very first period. However, after a year and a half of TTC, blood work comes back that I hadn't ovulated (various months of bloodwork). Was surprised because you are usually led to believe if you have regular periods, you are ovulating and therefore fertile. *shrug*
