Question

I had sex last night, and we've never used protection. I take birth control but at the very beginning of the month I missed one and I've spotted on and off ever since. I'll start my actual period Thursday. Are my chances of pregnancy higher than normal because I missed one pill two weeks ago? I doubled up the next night, and it says my chance is 3% on here. Just a little nervous, I'm considering buying the morning after pill. Please someone tell me what you think.

Most pregnancies on the pill occur when the woman does not start a new pack promptly after the new pack, and thus goes more than seven days without a steady supply of artificial hormones. Thus you did increase your risk by missing a pill at the very beginning of the pack. But don't worry too much; if you only missed one day, the risk should be low. By doubling up the next day you did exactly what the instructions that come with the pill tell you. If you've never read the insert, take a look; it doesn't tell you to use backup protection unless you miss two or more days. You should be fine.

The daily pregnancy risk listed by Glow is completely and utterly wrong for women using hormonal contraception. Women do not ovulate while using the pill correctly. The primary factor affecting a woman's pregnancy risk is how many days she has gone without taking an active pill. Thus her risk is highest at the end of the pack, when she has gone seven days without artificial hormones. This is also during her "period" (which is not true menstruation).

I can't tell you what to do - but given that you are expecting your period this week - you were well past ovulation. I would not worry.
