What fertility tests to request

I am 37, healthy and eight months into trying to conceive our first and probably only child. This will come as a shock to no one who is 35 or older and in the same situation. But, it took me some time to meet a man I love who I aso respect deeply and feel confident will be a wonderful father.

​The one upside -- we are very informed about our bodies and have done a fair bit of research around conception. On Friday we have an appointment with my OB/GYN.

​Are there any particular fertility-related tests that we should request? Are there tests any of the ladies over 35 wish that they had undergone sooner? Are there any tests that provided particularly helpful information that we should request?

I'm sure they'll check this, but check an fsh and amh - this helps to tell how "old" your eggs are. I'm also in my 30s (34) and have a lot of friends my age and older who had successful pregnancies. Best of luck!

Everybody who responded said the exact tests I would have said. I'd make sure the sperm analysis gets done first though before anything. I'm in the same shoes- didnt meet my husband until later in life and now facing this at a fertility clinic. You will be comforted when you see how many couples there are who need assistance conceiving- I know it made me feel not as alone and less scared. Good luck and all the best!

We found a really terrific OB Dr. Where we are and he was amazing.  He said how can we know what we're dealing with if some simple test weren't performed. Ask for bloodwork. Ask to make sure your tubes are open. Ask for a sperm analysis. Ask for a test on the quality of your eggs. That's a good start.
