to test or not to test?!

Ok so I have has irregular periods all my life,that is up until December when they starting coming every month for the first time ever.last month the 24th I started a very light mostly brown period,which only lasted three days.since then I have had very tender breasts,so much so that I can't stand the pain without a bra on.my period was due yesterday and I've been so tired and weepy.should I test or am I just getting my hopes up?
