Another disappointing month :(

So....my period finally came about 2 days late. I completely got my hopes up and thought we actually conceived this month and then woke up this morning with the intentions of going to get a test when I got my period. Pretty bummed today about it. I don't get it, we have timed intercourse, use OPKs, why is this not happening??? :( I feel time is slipping away....think I am going to plan a doctors visit to see what my next step is...since this has been almost a year of disappointment after disappointment and she wanted me to try for a year. Anyone who has gone to the doctor to find out what's going on what did they do?!? What's the next steps if it's just not happening?? I get huge anxiety from going to doctors so I would like to be prepared before hand...also should my husband get checked now too??? Sooo frustrating and heartbreaking...
