Weird cycle/ advice

This last cycle was very strange for me. Contacted dr they wanted to do some tests. All tests came back normal. So, they just said it was a weird cycle and not to worry about it. I have been off bc since nov but not really trying just not preventing. I haven't done any temp logs or opk test. They told me that if I don't get pregnant by nov this year to contact specialist. Has anyone else been told things like that. Is one year standard or should I wait 1 yr from when we start trying using all resources?
