Always Wanted to Be a Pornstar

"I don't really see anything degrading about living out a sexual fantasy," [Asa Akira] says. "I see it as empowering."

Pornstar, Asa Akira, has written a memoir: "Insatiable, Porn a Love Story." And as the title suggests, she's happy to be a porn star and doesn't feel her work is degrading or exploitative. From a young age, Akira has been comfortable with her sexuality and interested in the sex industry. She's "in love with being watched."

Her background isn't necessarily what you'd expect, either. Akira had a happy childhood, grew up in a normal upper middle class family, and attended private school. "My parents are still together; nothing dramatic or traumatic has ever happened to me," she said.

And she doesn't do it for the money. "I don't think you should ever sell your body for just money," she says. "It's not worth it."

Akira does acknowledge that she "knew [choosing a career in porn] would ruin my life forever." She'd probably never be able to have a regular job again or work with children. She also faces the decision of whether or not to start a family (her husband works in porn, too) because it'd be a tough thing to explain to her kids.

But for Akira, she chose her career for the "right reasons" and really enjoys her job.

What do you think? Is it okay if she's happy?
