Telling the family???

Question

My husband and I haven't told my family that we are TTC, but we've told his parents. The thing is I'm scared to tell my family because we just moved in our house and he's trying to get a job as a police officer.  With my weight and cerebral palsy more than likely making me high risk, they think I should lose weight first, which is true but I didn't want to wait any longer we've been married a little over 3 years now and it's time. How should I tell them? Or should I just wait till I actually get pregnant? My sister found out that we were trying and told my mother, but I lied and told her we weren't. I'm 24 and shouldn't be scared or ashamed to do this now. Any advice?? Thanks! :)

This is not advice but a suggestions....tell anyone who you consider a support person. If you would cry on your mothers shoulder after a miscarriage then tell her you are ttc.

​If you don't feel comfortable sharing this type of info then keep quiet.

​Most mothers with children of a certain age would love to welcome a grandchild into the family. If this is not the case for your family then talk with your husband now and create a plan for how to speak/deal with the family.

I think it depends on your families and how close you are. My mother in law is wonderful but stressed us out, so we did not tell her we were TTC. My mom had 8 kids and we are close, so I told her we were TTC and she was the first I told when I got pregnant. If you think they will support you, then I like the idea of telling a couple people because it can be a difficult time and you may need support.

​Most importantly though, make sure you tell your doctor(s) you are TTC so they can help, especially if you may be high risk. Good luck!!

I wouldn't tell anybody that you are TTC. If you get pregnant than I would tell when you are at least 12-14 weeks pregnant. But that's just what I would do. I would tell so late to avoid silly questions.... Good luck!
