Period question..

Ever since I've gotten off bc I start spotting like 2-3 days before my period. Then I'll bleed for 3 days max and then spot for another day or 2. My blood is almost never bright red or even red really...it's almost alway a rusty brown color. Is this normal? I've been on BC for 8 years and just went off of it in December when we started TTC. I know before my bc I would have ridiculously long periods...like 8 or 9 days of full on bleeding. I'm just wondering if what I have now is normal or if I should be concerned . Thanks for the input!
