What bank is best to create a checking or savings account with?

It's best to have to financial institutions. I would recommend Wells Fargo as your main bank and maybe a credit union for the other. I've been with wells for years and I trust them especially since they were one of the very few banks that didn't need a bailout during the recession. Hope that helps.

credit Union. they are usually local, so spring your neighbors, plus when they do well there is profit sharing in the form of dividends.  used the big name banks in the past but am happier now at a CU

I like Ally - because it is all online - and they reimburse you for banking fees from using any ATM in the world. Cool stuff.

It really depends on what your needs are. If you have a lot of cash, you will probably want to know about savings rates... If you use your checking a lot, try to look for free checking or rewards checking., reimbursed ATM fees, etc. These features should be listed right on their websites so you can decide what is the best fit :-)
