Midwife experiences?

Question

I am trying to decide between a midwife or OB and would like to hear your thoughts. The midwife group I am considering going with is part of a maternity center in a hospital, so they work closely with the docs and L&D nurses.

I've had both a fabulous midwife and a fabulous OB-GYN. I'm currently seeing the midwife because she's closer to my home, but I'm moving so I'll probably go back to my OB-GYN. However, I think usually midwives are a lot more personable, spend more time with you, and listen to how you want to go about your healthcare and pregnancy. I just got lucky with my OB-GYN, as she was an obstetrics nurse for 20+ years before she went to med school, so she definitely practices the patient-oriented care that most midwives and others in the nursing field practice. If she wasn't an option, I'd go definitely go with a midwife.

I've had an OB and a midwife from the same practice. The midwife was so present, literally. As she put it, the midwives are with you the whole time (not always in the room, but at the hospital/birthing center/home) and the OBs just show up and catch.

I would suggest a midwife. I jut had a miscarriage and she told me to come in for a physical, and even with just that I'm set. She was so much nicer than any obgyn I've ever had, they answered all my questions in a way that I understood, and it was all around a better setting for me, I feel it was more personalized.

Also I wanted to add, she was very attentive during my birth, I had an 8lb 6oz baby, and I did not have to get any stitches. I feel like the things she did really prevented me from tearing.

I had a midwife and I am going back to her with this baby too. She works in a hospital and is under the "supervision" of a doctor incase of any high risk or a c-section is needed. I really liked her, she didnt force anything on me, she was really laid back, and exsperinced she has delivered 6,000 babies! She even delivered my sister and I.  I did get an epidural and she wasn't unsupportive or anything. I would really recommend watching 'the business of being born' it is available on Netflix. 
​I have not had an ob/gyn for delivery so I can't compare the two. In my area there is a really high c-section rate and I personally wanted to avoid that.
