Long distance relationships. Good or bad idea?

I'm seriously considering beginning a much more serious relationship with a guy that I've been friends with for about 3 years. Issue is that he has dual citizenship and his work has branched out to England. We obviously can't see each other often as we will be a 6 hour flight apart. Should we just stay friends or attempt something more? Thoughts?

My husband and I were in a long distance relationship for a year about a year into a relationship. Then we were able to move to the same city, and three years later we got married. The year of long distance was not easy and there were times when we weren't sure we'd make it, but it was worth it in the long run. We got to know each other better and it tested the strength of our commitment. It felt crazy at the time - definitely a risk - but we so glad we tried.

Before my husband and I were married we dated long distance for 9 months. It was very hard, not because of anything except how much we missed one another. It was 100% worth it though because now I have a wonderful husband that's also my best friend. You get to do a lot of talking when it's long distance and not a whole lot of anything else. I would give it a shot. If it works that's great and if not at least you tried.
