Mireana IUD migration ?

Has anyone had the mireana IUD, and it has migrated? Like outside or inside the uterus and required surgery? Mine i just recontly found outnut migrated up out of my uterus and i want to know what to expect.

Does it have to be outside the uterus for it to be surgically removed?

That recently happened to me. The Mirena migrated all the way out into the abdominal cavity. Apparently it is EXTREMELY rare so most doctors don't even disclose that as a risk. I underwent laporoscopy surgery to get it removed. It is a fairly non-invasive surgery that although requiring full anaesthetics, you will likely be discharged from the hospital on the same day. All of the doctors have assured me that this has not affected my fertility (the tear in the uterus has healed as a small scar) and I will still be able to carry out a normal pregnancy and labour! I definitely won't be getting another IUD anytime soon. Good luck!!
