birth control methods??? opinions

In your opinion what is the most effective birth control you've used? and if you're a minor, under the age of 18, do all birth controls require parental consent/permission? I'm looking to get on birth control but bringing it up to my mom would be a terrible idea and she'd assume it's just me asking to be sexually active so she wouldn't approve. I am in a serious relationship and this isn't me asking for free will to do whatever, I just want to be prepared and safe when the time comes.
