Paleo anyone?

Hubby and I are gonna start eating paleo starting this next week. Has anyone tried this? Thoughts?

http://bepaleoandthrive.blogspot.beThat's my sisters paleo blog, she has been paleo for quite a while and loves it (she has a lot of allergies and health problems so this has helped her a ton) :)

My partner was talking about doing it a little while back. I'm mainly veggie and eat fish about once every 2 weeks. I eat cheese about 3 times a week. For convenience he eats pretty much the same but with more fish and he will every now and then buy a steak. Might suggest we actually give it a go, not immediately but use up what we've got left in the fridge/cupboards and only buy paleo.

I have to go on this diet since my thyroid disease is still not in hand after a year on a gluten free diet. I've bought the cookbooks "well fed" and "well fed 2" and they look great. The diet is pretty extreme for a civvie (even for me, though somewhat les so since I'm coming from a partly grain less diet anyway), but includes a base of vegetables and lean protein as the major food items it allows. Seems quite healthy, if difficult.

Look for the "everyday paleo family cookbook" by Sarah fragoso. It's another good one :)

The UK diabetes association have recently published comments and feedback on a variety of healthy eating diets. This one did not rate well. From personal experience it's a radical change and very hard to stick too. Also very hard to maintain weight especially if you work out. I would recommend picking out parts of it or maybe doing it for short term periods of time.

That's interesting that it didn't rate well.

It's hard to stick to but there's good websites out there with great ideas. I really believe that there's not one best way to eat...it's not one size fits all. I really think different people will respond differently to it. For my husband, he feels better than he ever has while I feel better eating vegetarian. Good luck with trying it out :)

I have. I was paleo for 8 months with some leniency in my diet like not giving up yogurt.I did it for working out and sports. I felt 110% better. I had a lot more energy, I wasn't so sluggish, I didn't bloat after meals, I was sick a lot less. I won't say I lost weight because I wasn't trying to, but I felt and looked better in the clothes I was wearing. I became much leaner and loved it.I would eat paleo Sunday-Thursday then cheat on the weekends if I felt like it, but usually I would make good choices at restaurants, too because I wasn't craving the bread or sweets anymore. If you're an adventuresome eater, try Nomnompaleo.com for great ideas! It's harder now because I moved in with my boyfriend who isn't totally on board with my health agenda but I do pretty good most of the time!
