birth control?

my doctor didnt explain my birth control to me and how to take it. he asked if i had any questions and i didnt have any but of course i have a bunch of questions now... so i know i have to take it at the same time but is there a time frame because my plan is to take it at 10 every night but like right now i am not home so is it ok if i take it maybe an hour later? will it still work?
