HSG test-who's had one?

Question

Im booked in to have a HSG test and I'm not so sure what to expect. I've done some reading online and I'm fine with the discomfort it may cause. I'm more excited to see if my chances of conceiving are increased after it. What's your experiences with this test? (Am not just getting test to boost chances of conception. I haven't had a cycle in 5 months so this is just checking if I have any blockages)

I had one a few weeks ago....when they put the dye in is the most painful people say it's like menstrual cramps but for me it's was more burning but I know everyone is diff....it's such a fast test

Hi there I also had an hsg test in August 2012 
​It didn't hurt too bad IMO 
​Just a crampy feeling
​although I did get pregnant in October 2012, 2 months later, I was told the results that my tubes were blocked because no dye was seen! I have never gotten an answer from my dr as to why this could of happened 
​I have a feeling tech was inexperienced but my baby just turned 1 so I'm grateful either way

My HSG experience couldn't have gone better. I did not feel anything beyond the speculum! I took 2 Advil about an hour beforehand. I was bloated afterwords. But no pain or cramping and didn't feel the catheter or dye. I just like to share a positive experience since I read so many negative ones before I went in and was sooo nervous.

My HSG experience wasn't the same as the other ladies. Mine was very painful but I had a lovely nurse hold my hand until it was over. I'd suggest having your significant other there just in case. It didn't last long but it was far from a burning/menstrual cramp/Pap smear feeling. Definitely take some Motrin prior to the appt. I didn't have any crazy blockages, so that had nothing to do with the experience. Good luck and I wish you all the best! Relax and it'll be over before you know it!

I just had one a few weeks ago. I don't think it increases your chances. All they do in inject dye into your uterus to see if your tubes are open and there's not an blockages.

​It was about as uncomfortable as your annual Pap smear. It's quick and the actual process itself isn't really painfull. I remeber having a cool/warm sensation all over my body when the dye was being injected. Later I did have cramps but not too bad. They told me to take some ibuprofen or Tylenol right before the procedure. I did.

​I also started Clomid this month and am currently in the 2 week wait. I'm very anxious his month.

I had one a few years ago. It was uncomfortable but didn't take too long. Period like cramps afterwards. Mine were clear. Did not get pregnant afterwards as I had hoped.

Had one last Sept. No blockage. Didn't result in bfp either. Seems ones that do experience some type of blockage benefit from hsg. Other than that it's just a diagnostic test not theuraptic.
