Frustrated and unsure

I took a hpt Friday with FMU (internet cheapie) and it was negative. Glow said AF is due to arrive that day and I wanted a relaxing hot tub and alcohol night. I went ahead and drank and soaked thinking I'm not preggers, but I'm now a day late. My progesterone test came back positive last week. So I ovulated for sure. So then I read that some women don't test positive on hpt for months and some even have periods for months! I never know when drinking, hot tubs, etc are ok for me now and I hate putting my life on hold for months "just in case" for a maybe child that has yet to happen.
