Nervous for wedding night (please advise! )

Hello:) I had my first pap smear today and it actually did hurt too much. I'm a virgin and so is my man. We've been together over 2 1/2 years, both in our twenties, and planning on getting married next summer! :):):) However at my doctor's appointment today I asked her if my first time was going to be as uncomfortable as this having this probe in me etc and she said yes:( she said it is usually not enjoyable for the female for a while (like a year ) and not to expect to orgasm for a while with actual sex. I'm just so sad and nervous because I want our wedding night to be something special and not a big, painful letdown. I also know it's important in a relationship to have that connection. we love each other very much and are attracted to each other etc but that was just a bummer to hear. Anyone experience differently or have advice/hope to offer???
