First Dr. Appt at 8 weeks

Camille
So this is my first pregnancy so I have no idea what to expect. My husband is in the Army and we are stationed overseas which basically means that I have very limited choices for prenatal care. I took my first positive pregnancy test on July 14th then took another urine test at my primary care clinic the following day (this is necessary to get a referral for the OB clinic at the hospital). Then I had to wait 72 hours to make my appt at the hospital. They set my appt for Aug. 4 which is a long enough wait. I'll be 8 weeks at and I'm so anxious to have an ultrasound and to hear the heartbeat to make sure our baby is ok. There is a very big chance that my husband will be gone for either the whole 2nd trimester or the 2nd and 3rd trimester so I want him to be there for every ultrasound possible until he leaves. Anyway, I called to see if I would at least be getting a dating ultrasound. They said it would just be an orientation with a nurse. I'm really bummed that I won't get to see the baby and everyday that we wait is less Dr visits that my husband will be able to participate in. So I'm wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation. I know some people have gotten ultrasounds as early as 5 or 6 weeks so it's just frustrating not being able to see my baby. I just feel like I can't feel at ease until I see him/her.
