Spotting before af, need help

I am 37 and only ttc for a few months, my Dr won't do hormone testing or refer me to fertility clinic until after 6 months. I know it can take time but I am concerned because I have spotting each month before af and am concerned I have a hormone imbalance. I also have painful periods. since I started af. All I want is testing to see if something is wrong and not waste time. I live in Canada and need a Dr referral to a specialist. anyone else have similar experience that can help?
