Mental illness?

I need someone's advice I think my parent suffers from mental illness (not diagnosed) and I've wondered for years... I don't know what to do, It's isolated me from living my own life I'm 27 and help financially because she won't get a better job.... She has no friends and doesn't go out, she has weird mood swings and she gets mad at me for no reason and I have no idea what I did. I've become depressed because if I leave or do something without her or try to move out she acts like I'm killing her. I needed to vent I don't know what to do, I feel so alone and embarrassed to tell anyone about it in my extended family or friends... Does anyone have advice or resources to help ??

My mom has Borderline Personality Disorder. Two things that helped me before she was diagnosed were the book Stop Walking on Eggshells and getting counseling for myself to understand what she was going through.

I agree with Mary, it may be something like BPD or Narcissitic tendencies. Look up the website Daughters of Narcissist, it may strike some chords with you. This may sound harsh, but at 27 years old it is not your responsibility to take care of her. Especially if it's because "she won't get a better job." That is her fault not yours. You need to live your life and be your own person. You new to walk away from her and let her throw her hissy fit. By continuing the way you are, you are allowing her to control you and she is well aware of that fact. She will continue to control you until you change the game. I wish you the best of luck.

I'm no doctor, but it sounds an awful lot like Borderline Personality Disorder. These people have mood swings and when you try to leave them think they are abandoning you or are trying to kill you. It may also be paranoia or schizophrenia. Your doctor will have to decide. She may need to go to a mental institution if she poses a danger to herself or you.

Maybe suggest family counseling for the both of you? That way it isn't all
​about her and the counselors can start to identity her issues in a safer. Also, they have a lot of tact in how to confront someone and could help you do so.
