Is anyone here a CNA or has been one?

I'm about to start my CNA course next week, and just want a few tips and such about the job. Is it true we have to deal with corpses on a daily basis? Someone give me the low down!!!

Always remember that yes you have a lot to do in a timely manner but the patient is your priority(if your short staffed the beds can wait to be made, ect)... don't get caught up in the negativity others can give off. The grumpy ones can be tiring to deal and it's gonna come with stress... but if you can stay positive, put your patients first and leave at the end of the day know you made a difference then it's a very rewarding job! 
I work long term care... I'm an LPN but when I first started I worked both. I work on the floor and do nursing duties. I love my oldies... it's funny how even the grouchy ones wear on ya... they all have stories to them and it's almost a fun challenge to find what works best for them to make their lives better... like for example a woman who keeps wondering the halls in the night and is non stop on the go... someone gave her a warm blanket (from a warmer) and she will settle instantly... its actually my favorite trick. The ladies I work with (and 1 guy) are amazing.... I love how creative they are and hoe much they care☺ I have learnt so much they can't teach you in school

Tips:
-Know your place. Don't try to compete with the RNs, it's not your job. 
-Get used to unpleasant smells.
-Get in the habit of dealing with an array of people. Some will be kind, others will be rude. You will have to be able to provide your best services no matter their attitude.
-get to know your fellow employees. They are your team, and getting along with them can make a huge difference in how you perform, the quality of service, and how much you enjoy your job.
-pay attention. You need to be able to see what needs done and do it quickly without being asked.
-Urgency with a purpose: get things done quickly and efficiently, making sure it's done on time and with excellence...if there's nothing to do, then you're missing it. There's ALWAYS something that needs done. 
-There is no easier way. Do it the way you're trained, no shortcuts.

I've never dealt with a corpse and I've been doing it for 3 months now. Honestly maybe if you worked in a hospital but I'm in a nursing home and have yet to encounter any.

I was a CNA in a hospital for 18 months. I LOVED it! Definitely not for the squeamish, since yes, you do deal with unpleasant bodily substances (blood, urine, stool, etc), but if you can handle that, and you enjoy working with people and serving others, then it is a great job! I personally only had to deal with 2 deaths in my time, so no, not all CNAs will deal with a lot of dead bodies. It all depends on where you work.

I got certified and then let it expire. Before finding a job as a CNA, I was working direct care in a group home setting and found that I was doing the same work, minus the title and got paid significantly more. I loved doing my CNA clinicals in the hospital setting and honestly working at hospice was one of my favorite experiences! Not all CNAs will work with bodies of those who passed, it just depends on what you feel comfortable and where you find work. It is an incredibly rewarding and selfless job and I think it takes a special individual to do the dirty work and care for their patients.

You don't deal with corpses on a daily basis! I have seen 4 people die...I work in long term care though so they were older!
