Why the early u/s now?

Question

Well, 5 years ago when I was expecting my daughter I didn't even get my first OB appointment till 13 weeks and an u/s till like 16 or maybe later weeks. With my angel baby I got it at 7 weeks and had an u/s done that same day, I am so thankful for it cause it showed that something was wrong.
​And with this baby I will be having it at exactly 8 weeks? 
​So I'm just wondering why they're doing u/s so early now a days? 
​Is it just a safety precaution? Or just to make more money?

My first ultrasound was done at 4 weeks.. My OB told me it was to make sure baby was in the right spot and wasn't an ectopic pregnancy

My guess is a safety thing for you. I'm only 9 weeks and have had a few but it was because the dr and midwife had concerns. I really think that usually you have to wait til week 12 or 20 or so...

Everyone I know has had one at 8 weeks, 13 weeks, 18-20 weeks, and then at least one more in the third trimester.  The first vaginal one it to check for a heartbeat (I'm sure there are more reasons for it) but at 8 weeks it's too early to hear the heartbeat through a Doppler. The 13 weeks is to take some measurements (not all doctors do this one. I have a feeling it's money related but they can also see if your baby has signs of Down's syndrome). The 18-20 week is for gender and to take more measurements.  I had my baby at 32 weeks so I never had the later ones, but I had a few on the hospital because of my condition.

Why the early u/s now?
