Can you get a period without ovulating?

Question

I've been getting regular periods since my iud was removed in march. Started taking ovulation tasks last month and never got a positive reading. Got my period right on schedule.

If you didn't DETECT your surge it doesn't mean that you didn't ovulate! Some woman get her surge just for 4 hours. So if you're testing just 1-2 times a day you could've clearly missed your surge. Maybe try BBT for your next cycle. Did you track CM?

Very read somewhere that you can as weird as that sounds. It's like the question,  what came first the chicken or the egg?. Ovulation is suppose to be the dropping of an egg and if that egg is NOT fertilized then menstruation happens. So needless to say i don't understand it either. Are you starting testing from the day after period ends? How long of a cycle do you have? Are you testing up until you get your period?

I know this is an old post but wanted to comment just in case any one else comes across it. I was in today seen by my obgyn and asked her if you could get a period without ovulating. She simply said nope! If you get a regular period there should be no concern about if you ovulate. When you ovulate can be the tricky part. Every woman is different. Hope this clears things up for any of you wondering. It sure helped me.
